Any good coal truck has several chutes ,probably stainless steel. Can dump 5 ton into a small bin window in a few minutes. No need for the customer to build a chute to use once a year.

I ran picked up a nice 8ft extendable to 12 ft Stainless steel chute a few yrs ago and use it mostly for pouring concrete. My coal truck guy has his own.

If you do build a chute out of plywood,...... if you tack galvanized roof flashing to it's inner surfaces that will make it much slipperier then the wood can be. Even then it may help to have a broom, or floor scrub brush, handy to help nudge the coal along the chute as needed.

Contact cement works well joining plywood and sheet metal I have found. Once both sides are ready for bonding there is no 2nd chance...plop, its joined without time for wriggling.

I've cut poly barrels in half lengthwise and screwed them together with drywall screws. It works but it may need an assist. Coal wants a flat, metal bottom to run free.

Steel chutes work if you can keep the rust off. The best chute bottom material is SS and perhaps aluminum.
