I recently purchased a keystoker 90 with an 8" duct take off built into it, it is located in my basement and tied into my main hvac trunk. It has been working great so far, but I love to tinker with things and improve them.

Right now you can feel a small amount of air flow coming out of the vents but not a lot, I have some registers shut in the rooms I like to keep cooler. The temperature of the air being supplied into the main trunk is somewhere around 130 degrees I believe.

My idea is to have the air handler blower turn on at the same time as the stove blower to move the air quicker, but I have questions.

First off, my air handler blower is rated at 1200 cfm, would the extra velocity temper the air to the point that it isn't doing any good with the extra velocity?

Second, is it possible to tie into the stoves signal for the blower and hook it to the air handler blower?

Third, would it be more logical to just install a larger blower on the stove.

Thanks!

The air doesn't need to move fast in order to heat your house. So far you've said it's doing a great job, so I wouldn't change a thing unless it's absolutely necessary. No sense in messin with something that ain't broke.

EDIT: Unless you have air moving backwards through your system and coming out the returns. Fix that before doing anything else.

So right now it is tee'd into trunk line w/ no assist.?

You want to assist by blowing through the trunk line and across that tee inlet.?
Right?

No BTU's added or subtracted then all will be the same but your electric bill.

No Free Lunch here, Sorry.

BTW: Best to move BTU's by water than by air...do it the last way first, Andy. You'll thank us later. :)

Big blower small stove...
Works on superchargers but nor so much on stoves...
Too much resistance developed...
Just need the factory designed blower to efficiently wash heat off of stove...
If you put the HVAC blower on a timer...
say 5 minutes every half hour...
You can get filtering, humidification and balance to the house environment...
If it is back flowing you need a back flow damper...
Maybe a CoalTrol...
Play with brands of coal...
Weigh your ash...
Make a spreadsheet...
But leave the ductwork be...
Because it ain't broke yet... ;)

Correct mcgeiver, the blower on the stove is the only thing moving the air through the ductwork, I would like to start saving for boiler, but as of right now a furnace is all I could really afford, and it was super easy to hook up.

Capecoaler , I have the Coaltrol thermostat, it's located upstairs in the furthest room away from the stove.,i couldn't do it on a timer because I have a plate completely blocking any air from getting back into the air handler.

the stove blowers are designed specifically to wash the stoves and keep them at a certain temperature for optimum heat transfer. You start putting bigger blowers on it, it just blows cooler air.

sounds like yours is working ok. stoves are not furnaces, so you will loose a lot on the sides, unless you put a jacket on it to pull more heat from it.

But cold air can return thru the ducts...
To the basement...
The Keystoker is set to pull air from basement...
The coaltrol is slow and steady...

The little fan is having a hard time pushing the hot air...
if the cold air does not have an easy path back to the beginning of the route...

I added a 8" duct off my plenum to the back of my stove, I think I am going to build a box around the blower that the return duct will plumb right into. The stove room is also open to the stairwell from upstairs, you can fill the air coming down.

I know the coaltrol also has an aux plug to run another blower/fan. I was thinking what about a 3-400 cfm fan that I could add onto the 8" duct coming off the stove that will only kick on at the set threshold to boost heat flow through the house? Just a thought, and it wouldn't cost much to try it out.
