My well/mclain pressure/ temp boiler gauge is KAAPUT. Ordered new gauge and would like to raise it about 2 inches. This would allow a better placement of the top covers. Anyone think ill have an issue? If anything a slight difference in temp may occur from the side thermowell my 3250 sits.

If air can get trapped in the well you wont get an accurate reading. if you could put a bleeder valve above it.....

As Waldo mentioned so well any air will get trapped.
The last thing you need a compressed air/gas bubble which would interfere with
the proper(actual) temperature reading of the water in the steam chest.
When I installed the new Marshalltown gauge I purchased I rotated it an additional 90
degrees to view it better during operation. I spent more money on a high quality
gauge and I can sleep better knowing that its always going to read correctly.
Make sure you look for the address of the manufacturer of the gauge on the box when
it comes (and it it were me):
If it lists China as the location of manufacture, I would return it and order a
new American made Marshalltown Triple Gauge from ACI controls.
I have had 2 Chinese made gauges that were faulty and I had enough and bought
a American made made with a warranty of fitness.

All done and working well. Thanks folks. Fired up the stoker today, kids at the grandparents. Oldest has dust mite allergy so I heated up all the rads to get the summer dust cooked off. Doubt I'll see anything higher than 65 this week so I'll get a chance to see how well my timer is set.
