I have two flues in my house, one goes to the basement and the other to a fireplace in my living room. I put my hand fired stove in the basement, and after 2 or 3 days of running it gets everything warmed up and comfy, but I have to run it fairly hot to maintain temps. So, I was thinking of moving it upstairs in front of the fire place, there is already a hearth pad, and my stove has a rear exhaust so I can run it out the back, 90 and up into the chimney.

However what concerns me is that I know for a fact that this chimney liner is cracked. I know from what I read that its okay for coal, since coal gasses are not combustible, but what worries me is that I use a wood fire to start my coal. Is that little bit of wood burning going to hurt anything?

Probably not, but you could switch to 'matchlight charcoal' for firestarting and not worry about it at all.

What kind of 'crack' are we talking about?

They are just hairline cracks. The clay liner is still in tact, no pieces are missing from it.
