I keep my MPD 2/3 closed at ALL times--even while tending--YEP!!! I got a real good draft. I had to play with all this to see where the old girl runs best.

well fellers yall were definately right the baro just aint for the 50-93.. but of course i had to try it anyway.. mpd and shes purrin like a kitten, long as the wind aint blowin, then we have a few issues.. sux to rent i want to put a actual flu pipe in thats 15 ft up,but im stuck with 14 guage black stove pipe and only have total of 9 feet of pipe. when its cold and not windy i get about -02 to -06 on mano wich is great, but bye god when the wind blows is when the problems start and im prety shure its because of the short chimney. i had + 8 at one point. does anyone know if there is a fix to this besides addin more pipe.

I wonder what Hitzer has to say (as in, what do they recommend) in regard to Barometric Dampers vs. MPD's?

What exactly is the problem? Is the stove over heating? Is exhaust being blown back into the house?chevyman1980 wrote: ↑Sun. Nov. 19, 2017 11:16 ambut bye god when the wind blows is when the problems start
As far as I know those stoves are designed to handle fluctuations in draft pressure by way of the bi metallic thermostat.
If the stove is overheating the problem may be with the bi metallic thermostat or the stove is leaking combustion air into it.
And what results did you get that makes you assume the baro didn't help?

I understand that, but if the stove heats up because of wind the bi metallic will counter it. So it indirectly responds to draft pressure, unlike a baro that directly responds to draft pressure.

Their installation manuals say you can use either one. If your draft is not highly variable I suggest trying no damper at all.
I have run a Hitzer 50-93 and two different 82's and they all ran good without a MPD or baro.

laughing my ass off freetown,I know wear youre goin... well with the baro it just wasnt pullin enough - pressure out the pipe, with manual i can acutaly regulate it to wear if i get to much positive pressure i close it and it blocks off the downdraft, and still gives me a good -2 --- -5 draw on manometer. I gotta say fred,if ya dont use a mano to check and see what youre draw actually is,it pays to get one. i burned mine last year with goin bye how she burned and did good, but this year i got a manometer and been keepin the draw -2 to -6 like manual says and she burns alot better., but the screwed up in the manual its supposed to be inches of water wich on my digital it is (inh20).. wasnt gettin to hot or anything there lightning, but was gettin alot of downdraft from chimney in high winds, but the mpd cut it down and still give me the draw.

I've read a bunch of good stuff on mano's, but now that you say it is an improvement on your 50-93--I might get one. Thanx for the post C.

The difference is, the baro responds second by second to wind-induced changes, whereas the stove heats and cools -- and the bi-metal thermostat adjusts -- over many minutes. So in gusty conditions the baro maintains a much steadier draft. In ALL wind situation, the baro also maintains a steady draft, so the gradual heating and cooling of the stove does not occur as the wind comes and goes.
