Multiple Thermostats/Zones with Coal-Trol?

Just curious how the coaltrol handles multiple zones in a home?

We have 4 thermostats

basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor, outer room.

Do you need 4 Coal trol Thermostats? Can you use the existing typical 2 wire thermostats and hook them in to a central coal trol thermostat?

The thermostats are there for obvious reasons. Different temp zones. 60 in the basement, 70 1st floor 68 or so 2nd floor

etc.

Thanks

I know The CoalTrol uses only One thermostat with a special Network style plug connection (Ethernet) and hooked directly to the CoalTrol black box control unit. So, a standard 24VAC thermostat cannot be hooked up to the CoalTrol directly.

If your Thermostats are hooked to the Zone valves, They would control whether heat is needed or not, and send the signal to the boiler for more heat, there may be a way to hook a signal to coal system for more heat.

Neil or Paul from Coaltrol can probably help you out here....:)

I know nothing about the CoalTrol but would assume it can be used regardless of the number of zones. The number of zones really shouldn't matter, it doesn't to a boiler without it. Whether one zone or four calling for heat the boiler just sees a call for heat, not how much. The multiple thermostats just allow an individual setting adjustment by zone.

Unfortunately, Coal-trol Digital does not currently support multi-zone setups nor do we control boilers. Both are on the "wish list" for future products. Boiler stoker control is the most popular request we get, followed closely by zone controls for the boiler based setup. Every once in a while we get an inquiry about forced air multi-zone setups.

Thanks for the info Guys.

I'll just wait until they come out with a boiler control!
