Seems as though it might be worth talking to him to find out who he is using and see if you can work something out with them to bring you the coal you want from PA.

if I were you I would look for a better breaker with better coal Higins is not getting good coal anymore Lots of shale rocks & sticks try the third fourth fifth & sixth link All Coal is loose bulk Bagged coal is twice the price even here where they mine it & bag it 6 to 8 miles away

Well I'm glad I asked. Figured it was too good of a price for it to be anything worth getting into. I might try talking to them and seeing if the couple would interested in switching over at some point in time? Don't hurt to ask.

Looking for bulk. Funnily enough, one of the guys who's working on getting me a shipping quote, says a buddy of his does the same thing, but he lives closer to the coal area. He also said his buddy rents a scale & a bagging machine to divide up the load among the folks who went in on the cost.
I've no idea where I might find a large scale & bagging machine for rent, but I've a few places I can start looking. If I find anything out I'll post it here.

Seems if you could find something like that available for rent that it would have to come from one of those heavy duty industrial rental places. I don't think any low end rental place would have anything like that. I guess if you asked your friend where he rented his that they might know someone locally that would have it?

The more I look into this, the more I'm appreciating why we're paying more up here in this corner of the country. May be more than we'd like to but ..

So if I could buy coal in PA at $135 per ton & get it to my yard for $800 for 20 ton, that would be $175 per ton. If I bagged it & sold it for $220 per ton, I would need to sell 1,000 ton to pay off my bagging machine investment.

Wait till I run this business plan past the girlfriend ... "but honey, after that it's all clear profit!!"

Now if only granite would burn ....

Now you are talking about Hegins coal for 135.00 Not very good Quality coal
there are much better Quality Anthracite very close to Hegins for 140.00 a ton and if you drive about 20 north you will get 130.00 a ton Now it should come down in the next few months hopefully it all will depend on what the Fuel cost will be it might not come down it my stay the same or go up

It is a pain in the butt. I have a garden center. I am looking to convert all my heat to coal, and sell coal....not stoves, but
you never know! Any way, the industry seems pretty sleepy. Well, with oil at 4 buck plus, and going higher, they are going
to get a wake up call.
I am researching bulk, bag deliveries. I can take bulk deliveries, and pallets. I am looking into boiler, stoker stoves, etc.
I am South of Boston.
Still waiting on prices for equipment. Got a quote for AHS coal gun, with the options.....close to 11000. just for the equipment. Feels like they were just firing a stupid shot over the bow.... I will continue to hunt. Arranging the trucking
is pretty straight forward. As far as I can tell, 1 ton of bulk is pretty close to 1 cubic yard. That is close...most of the
info I have found on displacement, sizing etc. is really old....like 50 to 100 years old. There is some contradiction in the numbers.
We'll know for sure when the truck dumps......
As far as bagging yourself.....not really practical. Better to make your best deal bulk or bagged, and get delivery. Rent
a bobcat or a fork truck for a day if you do not have one, and be done with it.
This site is amazing in its info and posters, I feel fortunate to have found it. The guy from PA posting picked up prices....
the BEST, you are the man. I believe that the use of coal will increase. It does take a little thought and work. That will limit
the market. Most people do not want the hassle, how ever simple. It absolutely blows wood away in every way. Not even
close. Wood pellets are hot right now, but quality and availability are all over the place. The biggest gains for coal, I believe
are wood burners. Who knows?
