So I have my hot blast 1357 in my basement heating my house, my garage is attached to my basement, I have a 6" duct running out there and a return, the coal furnace only has a 550 cfm fan which is factory, an it heats my house well, but it does not heat my garage very good at all, I have the base burner out there but would like too see if I could heat it all with my furnace, garage is around 1.000 sq ft and house is 2,100. I can't just run my furnace hotter because it would cook me out of the house, is there any way to have two different "zones"? Could I put one of those 6" duct fans in and set it up to a thermostat? My thought on that though is it would pull air from my other regiesters first? What do you guys think?

Forced air zoning is done with dampers operated by motors, usually 24 volt motors.

That damper motor you are using for the combustion air control is an excellent example of what one is.

I would have too install a motor on every output of my trunk though wouldn't i? I was also wondering, my furnace has two 8" outlets on it, I could seperate them, one 8" too my trunk and one 8" to the garage, then I could shut and open it with a actuator, but I don't think one 8" would serve my house.

It really depends on how the house is ducted and how you want to zone it. Post up some pics, drawings and details, you'll get plenty of input. Two zones could possibly be done in the output plenum with one actuator.

I would try the dedicated line to the garage first. Try using a 6'' duct to the garage to balance the distribution. Remember to close the garage outlet from the main trunk. Add the motorized damper on the 8'' duct and crank up the furnace a little. The house will be zoned and the garage will get more heat.

That setup is deff on the back burner. That will be a big job though, it will be the last resort.

I use a manual butterfly valve on one of my heat runs to balance heat distribution. I think they are less than $10.00.. Could be an easy solution for you. But of course its manual, not automatic.. :)

Yeah, it looks like a boiler would fit in there nicely. You would have to take the eight inch ducts down from in front of the washer / dryer.

OK, do your warm air registers (in the house) have variable louvers in them?
You could slow air volume flow thru those, which would force more warm air into the garage... :)
