The factory will say don't do it or you will void the warranty. What else are they going to say? Lawyers won't let em say anything else.

You will reduce the capacity overall but if your going to do any reducing do it right at the chimney thimble. Of course all settings will be lowered and you will have to set the air and fuel feed lower than the book says.

Besides the lawyer angle, Keystoker may have some other valid insights to lend, maybe.

No reason not to hear what they might say.

I am certain Keystoker will say no. eight inch to six inch is a huge reduction; you are reducing the volume by almost half. I have the old nine inch version and they said it is OK to reduce by one inch just before the chimney like Larry said. The new eight inch stack version they may say the same thing or not to reduce it at all.
I guess the only way to find out for certain would be to do it and see what happens.

Okay, we pretty much know the answer is a NO.

Is it still not worth the call to hear Keystoker's added words on the matter?

This was discussed before. See the attached link.

You just have to watch your venting and ensure you have proper draft. You will be best served by getting a manometer and hooking it up at the same time.

Is the chimney flue 6" or just the thimble? How tall is your chimney?

The Keystoker manual specifically allows smoke pipe diameter reductions, provided they occur at the thimble. It also provides for restricting the air inlet as needed to maintain a minimum specified draft. This could result in air and feed settings that are lower than the capacity of the unit, but they would be fully consistent with "the book", and shouldn't cause heartburn for anybody's lawyers.

See, no problem, you only reduce the maximum output. ;)
