A senior boiler dealer insisted on a ''M'' style baro last year when my buddy bought his 130 AA.
So I picked up one too, it's made by fields. Very nice construction, and super nice to fine tune.
Do any of you know why an ''M'' type is recommended by AA over the top hinged that I had ?
The top hinged did the job too, but I like the Fields for ease of tuning .

The M is what Field Controls recommends for coal is probably why.

The type M tips out the correct way for a puff-back...the RC type gets mangled badly on a puff-back cause it tips in. .

I ran a Fields Type M for a couple of years. I truly believe they are more robust than the RC. I attached mine to a 22 gauge T. Over time I found it would simply hang up, and not move freely. When I first installed it I had to fiddle with it to keep it moving freely. I finally got frustrated and gave into installing a RC. It works well, looks wimpy but functions. Adjustments are not nearly as fine a type M, but it works. I really think the 22 gauge T just squeezes the baro frame a little too much. My install was on a 6 inch stove pipe.

I use pituitary gland oil from blue whales to lube mine. Never had a problem.2001Sierra wrote:I ran a Fields Type M for a couple of years. I truly believe they are more robust than the RC. My Type M sticks on occasion also. I oil the hinges at least once a month, and I have also limited the degree to which it can swing open (which seems to help a lot). I called Fields and asked to speak with a technician about my problems with it, and he said he was not at liberty to speak to me since I installed it myself. Not much help there.2001Sierra wrote:I ran a Fields Type M for a couple of years. I truly believe they are more robust than the RC. I attached mine to a 22 gauge T. I hope it was from a fertile female whale
Wont powdered graphite work on these? Ive used it with decent results on the RC ones.

Thanks for the responses,
I live very close to the ocean so I'll pick up some whale oil ASAP to keep the baro happy !
So far no trouble with it hanging up. I do like it and think any of the members that need a new baro would also.
Thanks ! Dave
