Can someone point me to a spec sheet for the chimney on a KA6? I can't find it and I want to have it for the mason doing my chimney.

Thanks

8 inch according to Keystoker's web site, listed as A under boilers.

Yeah I seen that but thought he might need other specs. But I guess everything would be based off your thimble size. Thanks

Keystoker would probably be happy to make a recommendation. I imagine it will be 8x8" or 8" round tiles.

(8" round tiles with vermiculite between the block and tile is tough to beat).

I believe 8x8 tiles only except 6 inch round thimble.

From one of the trips to the Keystoker factory, I believe they said you can order the KA6 with a 6" flue as an option.

Just use 8/12 modular tile.

If the chimney is going to be outside the house I would be careful about the flue sizing. Stack temp. is going to be low from the boiler.

Got some more info on that? Recommendation?

Originally my mason said this.

"Your gonna need a 24' chimney with an 8" flue and 6" thimble. The cost is $3000.00 . That includes the footer, going through the deck and sofit with flashing ,and all material."

Now I let him know the KA6 calls for a 8" thimble. And he replied.

"If it's a 8" thimble the whole chimney has to be bigger and its $400 extra."

The key to good draft especially on an exterior stack is height - try to shoot for at least 4' above the highest portion of the home and you'll have good draft in mild weather. Heat (and thus area) become more serious considerations when dealing with stacks of poor height. Build it tall and everything else becomes insignificant.

Jack is right on this-8 round would be best. The problem is getting a mason to do it. Most I know would balk at round tiles. I usually suggest 8x12 because I know the thimble/tile connection will be OK. Taking the time to mate a 8" thimble with 8X8 tile and making it nice is a rarity.

Well I talked to the mason yesterday and he said it would need to be 8" if the thimble is 8" (NY code).

I'm not sure what the mason or anyone else is telling you - but 8x8 tile isn't 8" ID neither is 8" round or an 8" thimble. This is not easy to understand for those that don't know, but for a mason, he should be able to understand it. 8x8 tile is what used to be referred to as modular and is usually 6x6 min. ID 8.5x8.5 (standard) is 7x7 min. - there's lots of variation between tiles so those are guaranteed minimums ID. so the only way you're getting enough flue area and easily mating the thimble (8" ID) to the liner is by going w/ a (modular) 8x12 flue minimum. You might get away w/ 8.5x8.5 (standard) flue, but it would cut it close.

Round, ship lap tile is nice, but, it is a pain to work with especially because it usually doesn't fit well and the ends aren't cut square. square tiles aren't cut square either, but, this can more easily be compensated for.

As I mentioned, build it tall and make sure you have at least as much flue area as needed and you'll have no problems.
