I see many poor chimneys on my drive to work. Theres one thats looks to be just a peice of duravent through the wall then a single wall black pipe elbow and about 6 sections of black pipe with no cap on top and a see thick white smoke rolling out of it almost every time I pass it.

Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. I have a 22,000 BTU air conditioner sticking out of a second floor window. I hate air conditioners in windows, especially all year long. I wanted to install it in the wall in the upstairs hall, but was forbidden from doing so because then it would be sticking out of the front of the house. The window it is in is right above the kitchen roof, it's almost hidden there. It's just too heavy to take out every fall. I made a nice storm window for above it, it's draft free.

I'm betting its a pellet stove with an exhaust blower so I doubt it would create any problems. It has the increaser on the end where the cap is and that makes me think its a 3" or 4" insulated pipe before the cap part. Those pipes only need small clearances so running it thru the plywood with the clearance should be fine too.

It might not be eye appealing but I bet it gets the job done and it may be all they could afford. Or they just don't give a crap and thats ok too.

Does the free ticket include airfare? :D

Warminmn,
I agree with you-pellet stove. About 5 yrs. ago, I gave(as in free) my pellet stove to a friend in Newburyport, Ma. to take the chill out of his 'man-cave'. We lowered the top half of the window in the old chicken coop, covered the top half with sheet metal, cut a 4" hole for the insulated pipe, and, the building inspector didn't even blink! This is 'taxachusetts' folks! All they want is that permit fee.

P.S. NO pics available
Cheers

Wait. You have to clarify for 'ol Fred, that's the movies Star Wars. Not the Reagan space laser thingy. :D toothy

On topic though, I almost did that with my furnace once. Not sure why I nearly went out a window. Glad I didn't though.
