just curious, can boilers in series be vented together into flue. I currently have a gas boiler and a domestic water heater where the venting comes together, than exits into the chimney. could I do the same thing with two boilers. thinking of the future.

The fire code requires a separate flue (chimney) for each solid fuel boiler. It can not be shared with another coal boiler or any other fuel type boiler. The installations that do allow sharing, gas heating with gas hot water heater for example, are because they the fuel can be completely shut off by the safety device in an instant. Something you can't do with coal.

If you must.......... Burnham Boilers recommends doing it this way. You are better off power venting your conventional appliance and using the chimney for solid fuel. That should keep the Gestapo and insurance company happy.
