Which way would I turn the tempering valve to decrease the amount of cold water being mixed with the hot water?
Hot Water Tempering Valve
I have an outdoor wood stove which I am also using to heat my domestic hot water. I have taken a photo of the hot water tempering valve. This system has been in use for I would say five years. This year the hot water doesn't seem to be hot enough. The water temperature going into the oil burner is running around 160 degrees. So the temperature of the water going through the domestic hot water tank should be roughly the same?
Which way would I turn the tempering valve to decrease the amount of cold water being mixed with the hot water?

These devices "stick" or get buggy with some regularity.
a) take it apart -clean it and put it back together
b) have a plumber fix it
c) replace it and have a nice day - and plan to replace it in about the same life cycle

I just had the same issue with the tempering valve on the EFM. Began loosing hot water under high demand a few weeks ago, yesterday had a lukewarm shower. I was about to remove the guts but I got the hot water running at a good flow and rotated the adjustment stop to stop a bunch of times. Hot water is back now.
To answer your question: There should be a tag on the handle with arrows telling you which way to turn for warmer and for cooler.
