My aquastat was behaving for 8 months. ( used ). Its a Honeywell L8148E . Monday she started to act up. When the circ pumps were on, and the boiler temp was low she would stay closed and keep power going to the stoker until my safety aquastat opened at its high temp setting.

Normal issue ? Or should I look deeper for a reason ?

New one, Also scavenged but nice is working well. 8-)

My first question is why were you using a L8148E? That is a cold-start aquastat with no low limit control. It is normal for the stoker to keep running during a heat call until the high limit setting is reached.

Next question, how do you have the timer wired into the aquastat?

My timer is powered from the L4006E 'stat.( the over-temp ) safety. It can power ,and will, the stoker every half hour for 60 seconds. It bypasses the triple aquastat.

So after a bit of drama with intermittent boiler over-temps for the last 2 weeks I'm pretty sure I found the gremlin causing it all.
It appears that my timer was powering the stoker any old time it felt like it . She is dropped out of the picture for now, we will see if all is well after a few days.
