First thing I would do is get the bricks off the roof before it damages the shingles. Warn anyone there to stay indoors while you toss the bricks off the roof. I rebuilt the top of my chimney last year. Get down to a decent layer and stop there :D

How far do you want to go? If it were me,i'd tear the brick down tojust under roof line and rebuild, replace the top flu's and new counter falshing and good for the next 40 years.Leave the brick on the roof, you will only need to carry them back up!Make the mason cover the roof with carpet padding to prevent foot slipage and protect the roof.

Oh lol. I thought He would want new bricks. Unless he's willing to chisel the old mortar off of them.

Doug, are you planning to do this all yourself?

new bricks :eek2: I can barely afford the masons mix  I was totally thinking a couple courses and reseal the top with a nice smooth pitched masons mix but getting to a good course is seemingly impossible, 3 flipping ladders up, down, up down with bricks and 5 gallon buckets of mortar is just not kool at all! :mad3:

Geez, be careful partner! I was able to rebuild the top of mine from the roof. I used the square chimney blocks with the flue channel in them, since the rest of the chimney is 4*8*16 solid block. But that probably wouldn't work for you. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I rebuilt mine 10 years ago. That was fun. It's still standing though! Although when I ran out of sand, I used some road sand in the mix - the rocks are much too big, and that mortar mix is now crumbling. Of course, that was the final, top layer - the one that counts! Figures!

Cost me nothing but my time and a bag of mortar. 8-) Did it all by eye - no level! I tried, but the level got tossed like a boomerang.

Before and after pics:

My mason work:  Hey, it's still standing! :D

OK... well, its solid, I need to save for a piece of slat or granite as a cap but other than that (and somehow cleaning up the cement crap from roof near chimney) im done.

I should have waited to hear the advise about some old carpet pad before I started this cluster f... that's a great idea! protect roof and works as a tarp too!
anyway... might as well put this out their now...

any advise on any way to clean of roof as good as possible ( hose the piss out of it? etc.?.... a lot of its dry already and I have to go to the office so its gonna be totally dry  any options for me?)

Final thoughts are Masons work VERY VERY VERY freeeking hard! I only wish I could afford one someday
