Efficient or Not

Wondering if I'm running Ka 6 efficiently or not.. Total piping (insulated) is 240 ft that connects ka-6 to oil boiler. 50 gal hot water storage tank that's feed by oil boiler coil. Should circulator run 24-7 for the loop between boilers or should circulator only run when oil boiler temps drop below Ka-6 settings? 50 gal dhw tank or let dhw coil on oil boiler handle the call for hot water?

i would let the circ run only on a hw demand. when I first fired up my system I tried running the loop from the house to the shop all they time I wasted alot of coal. are you having a hard time using the loop for hw?

No problem with loop, coal consumption is high. Since oct 1 until now, 8 1\2 ton. Ordered a honeywell 4006a to be able to run system on hw demand. House temp is 72..

Wiz,
Not all set ups are equal- that's obvious. I do generally use 7.5 tons of rice coal a year with a KA-6. Wish it was less but house fairly big. Used almost 2 ton one summer running the coal for hot water. Last summer used the oil boiler from 6/15 to 10/5/12 and used about 1/4 of 275 gallon oil tank- say 70 gal of fuel oil. Roughly same money for oil fed side arm for the summer as ton of coal in my area. But the summer before coal for hot water was 2 tons.
My coal boiler is 4 feet from the oil boiler. I bought 7.5 tons and started upt 10/5/12. 1.5- 2 tons left right now. Again- lot of house with suppossedly good windows and R-21 walls and R-50 attic. But, Damn is it windy where I live! My wife keeps things at 72 degrees also. I tell to turn down the heat to save coal and her response is..... but I though coal was cheap.

Dirty Steve,
I realized that everyone system isn't the same, that would make things too easy for me.
Home is a nice sized with fairly new windows, insulate well also. I've got 165 ft of baseboard through out the house. Looking for some input from members if running circulator 24-7 was efficient.

Update on 24-7. Since my post I added a l4006a aquastat strap mount on oil boiler. Wired tt wire to triple aquastat on keystoker. In doing this it allows circulator between boilers to run on demand.Last night temps 18* and I'm pleased on amount of coal used in 12 hr period. On my application I'm expecting a saving on coal.
