For my ash augers I am pushing from motor and don’t use an anchor bearing, lower speed seemed to smooth things out. Only problem with ash auger has been clinkers bridging and going to 4” looks (so far) to have fixed that. My feed augers all have anchor bearings and tension. I buy my 45s also. An electrician friend said he thinks he can bend a sweep out of pvc conduit, may take him up on his offer when one wares out or switch to metal. I will not be doing the bending because I am very good at crimping pipe where you don’t want crimps.

Why don't you run an anchor? The tubing in the center keeps the auger from over filling. I just put them in mine and it works great and it is cheap. The stretch is the most important part of flex augers. Try Hog Slat.com for parts they are reasonable and have generic parts for choretime and other brands.

Ran one with an anchor and one without, both worked ok, then used anchor for a feed auger (not using a boot, so no over filling). The ash augers are only 20’~ long with one 45, works with no tension, any longer or more curves would probably require anchor. 4” bearing $100.00ish, 3” bearing $50.00ish, if it works without, I keep $150.00 (more beer :) ). The Delmarva has lots of chicken farms (they run hundreds+ feet flex augers per house) so have 3 stocking supply houses nearby. Thanks for info on hogslat.

I was wondering if anyone has done the ash auger system for an EFM?

Not sure. What Arnie at AB Van Wert did is he installs a platform base to allow the auger to pass right through the ash pit. It is AWESOME I have a 1.5 ton hopper and have not looked at the boiler in a month now still plenty of room in ash can before it gets put out for driveway traction. Now I can finally take my wife on that trip to mexico in february lol!
