NOW......
depending on how far you want to go with this... meaning do you want this to just work..?
or do you want it to work efficiently... any basically be the only heat source you will need for the house?
... either way... for best results in your situation.. you need to interrupt the cold air supply trunk ... whether it be the horizontal 1 under the floor or the vertical 1 coming down... and take that to your stove
.. also from your stove... you would need to duct ( from your new jacket that you ordered) to the handler(basically like you have now)... but I would suggest bigger duct
... so basically.. what you will have when it is completed.. is this:
cool air from the house will be drawn through the ductwork(cold air return side)...
Pass over and around the hot stove(jacket/plenum) ...
then continue on to your Handler to be distributed throughout the house.

... like I said this will take a little messing around..
but I think the end result would definitely be worthwhile... I could send you a sketch if you need one... but I think it is pretty self explanatory

I was wondering how big I should make the box for the stove

My plan was 3 inches bigger on 3 sides and 10 bigger in front by 12 inch deep but will only hang below top of the stove 2 inches because of the door

What you describe sounds like a hood essentially..?
...square in shape...12 inches high..??

Would it be possible to "jacket" the right,left ,and back sides of the stove...about 4 to 6 inches out on all sides ...
with the jacket going all the way to the floor ?
..10 to 12 inches above the top sounds good...you would obviously have to accommodate the chimney pipe...and possibly the shaker on the right side.
The more heat u can contain the better...and you would have a larger resevoir of hot air to be circulated by the handler

Here where I'm am now and with the bitter cold days we had last week my house was 68 and j had some nights in the single digits

I'm going to add a second 8 inch next week and work the sides

I tried lower setting but doesnt work too good

i was thinking of adding a manual damper too I really think after this winter I will be getting a new stove thats more efficient

I was looking at a Leisure Line Hyfire with there jacket and im not against a coal furnace but cant fit down my basement
