I think member *KLook* has given you some good insight into your situation there.

Sounds like human intervention, as opposed to automation, is the solution to bring up the slab temps gradually.

A slab stat could be used to limit and stop adding the heat, but you would need to initiate the start yourself manually via some control over-ride. :)
