Hi,my name is Mike and I am new to the forum and to coal.I am Installing a used Franco Belge 10.242 in great shape.I have purchased a Selkirk Metalbestos typeHT dbl walled stainless,Is this suitable.My next question is how far should the stove be kept off the back wall,thanks Mike.

If the Selkirk is marked 316, you should be fine. 304 will work too but will have a slightly reduced usable life. 36" is probably enough for a flammable wall, closer if it is protected with steel/tile/cement/etc.
