Hi everyone,

The chimneys are finally done, now to finish off the wall and install the new boiler! Yes, we're excited!

Let me step back a bit and lay it out for ya.

We decided to install the boiler in our garage, which is underneath a portion of the house.
We decided to put in two chimneys side by side, one for the boiler and the other to replace the power vent for our existing oil furnace.
We (or rather, my husband) cut the sheet rock opening for the chimney openings in the wall, the mason built the blocks in which extend only to the edge of the studding.
His question is, how does he finish off the edge of drywall around the blocks to make it look nice since the blocks are set back 5/8"?

thanks!

I hate it when he asks me questions I don't know the answer to, so you guys will all make me look smart if I come up with a good solution! haha

A picture would help a lot to visualize the problem.

Yea,sooo neighbor, you get us all following this process & you don't even post a finished pix-- :wtf: toothy OUTSTANDING my friend, but really, let's see it. ;) finish corners depend on your house/garage---1x2's---1x3's etc Now I'm in a 200 yr old farmhouse, so that would look fine here?????

How come the chimney's so short? You need to have your tender get the lead out. toothy

Stuff the gaps with glass insulation and cap the gap with an attractive molding of your choice. ;)

We put off the interior while we had to rush and build a coal bin on the weekend because he just couldn't wait any longer and had to go get a load of coal before the weather turns bad.

I was so glad to get all that scrap wood out of the barn that was wasting space! He went to Casey Kassa, his cousin and friends go there, he was pleased, drove right in on Sat morning, no line, no waiting, and got 3.5 ton.
