with my stove in the basement (finished) and a duct top pocono with 3 ducts running to the main floor I planned on cutting cold air returns into the bedroom floors, my question is should I run a duct from that floor register to the floor of the basement so hot air doesnt try to come up?

It is amazing how much cold air will drop before warm air will rise. Can't you just leave a door open to the floor the stove is on to see how that works? Holes are hard to patch, and frustrating if they do not function as you planned.

The cold air will drop...

there is a basement door but it stays closed so the little one doesnt go down there, we could put a gate up to leave the door open. my plan was to wait to try it when it gets colder out and see how it goes before cutting more holes but the door goes into another room before it goes into the main basement area. I guess ill wait to see what happens when it gets colder out

We took the door right off to the basement and put on of these in. I just installed a baro so I let the fire go out and of course house cooled down. Started back up last night and this morning I feel the heat billowing out of the steps. It takes a few hours im learning to get to desired temps. Im a newbie ;)
