CO detector saved my family's life this morning around 5:30AM. I was planning on going to the big orange store to pick up 2 of them digital ones now I Definitely am today. The one that went off is in the basement stairwell and I shut the stove down and opened the door and windows immediately. There was an accumulation of fly ash in the stovepipe, cleaned it out, and all is well.

Glad to hear all are ok. If you have elbows on your vent pipe, consider repalcing them with T's with a cleanout cap. Works great and allows you to monitor flyash accumulation and clean it out without shutting down.

Anyone have any of these? I just found out our township requires them. We have always had them , but won't be able to sell the house without them.

As well as CO and SMOKE detectors, we also have HEAT detectors on all three levels of our house. All hooked up to our home security system. Man, that little box is loud. It will wake you up, even if you lost your hearing. It is a voice alarm..... "FIRE-FIRE-FIRE. PLEASE LEAVE!!!"

:D :D If there is a fire, no one would have to say "please" to me to get me to leave.

Another good idea for you if you do not have one already would be a Manometer or Magnehelic gauge hooked to stack
pipe then you can monitor the draft if the draft drops / low draft that will tell you that fly ash build up in the stack pipe chimney or boiler/stove or furnace breach Hook it up and leave it to monitor 24/7 and always check CO & Fire detectors at lest once a month and replace units every 3 to 5 years.

Forgot a few Detectors
Two Co in boiler room & one fire
Combo Talking CO & Fire in the front basement room .
One CO in dining room
One fire in hall way between Dinning and living room covers bed rooms as well
One Co & Fire up in Attic

So break down

5 Co detectors

4 fire detectors

Will add another fire opposite side of the one in hallway

I was reading that in another thread and will be purchasing a Dwyer Mark II 25.

I thank you and coalkirk for the advice.

DVC500: I have two of those in my laundry room just off of my kitchen.

Just added my 4th CO detector to my living room.

So, now I have two CO/Smoke combo detectors that are 110v with 9v battery backup hardwired to my generator, one 9v standalone CO detector near my front door and I've added the 4th a plug-in 110v CO detector that has a PPM readout next to my stove that reads 0 ppm.

No pics but it's awesome.

Been a member for a while. Here's my list:

Two, CO/Smoke detectors 110v hardwired w/battery backup tied to the generator, in the living room on the ceiling.
One, CO with digital readout about 36" from the stove.

ABC extinguisher in the kitchen.

FE 36 extinguisher in the living room.
