Pounds Per Day Used?
freddy, stokerstove this is a pic of my Liberty, and the fundation. I´ve been using 50 lb a day with the dial on 3, now is getting cold but it does not seem to affect the temp inside 65. Is it normal to see black coal in the ashes? Today we discovered the bad way that if we leave the ash tray door open for mor than 2 min the stove shuts down and we have to push the reset, anyway we have been burning 50 pounds or so to heat the 1800 sf of the house plus the 800 sf of the slate stone fundaion so I guess we are ok. Now in with dial on 4 the heat coming out of the stove should be really hot right, well is not it burs all the coal but is not as hot as the exaust (really hot) could this be a flaw in the machine it self or is it due to the air in the basement being cold? Thanks for all your help

Coal-coal, I'd venture a guess that if you're place is comfy using 50 pounds a day, you're doing OK. If you get the basement walls insulated you'll use less.
Oh, so there must be something, wrong with this unit, when the dial is set on 2 it eats 30 pounds, regardless of the temp.
Also I attached a photo of the ashes, it apears not to burn all the coal. do yours ahes look like that?
Thanks.

I am a newbie at this, but the picture is fuzzy when it is opened but the coal looks a little dark like it is not burned all the way.cool-coal wrote:Oh, so there must be something, wrong with this unit, when the dial is set on 2 it eats 30 pounds, regardless of the temp.

Dev, is your coal baby your only source of heat? Must be nice to do it on 30# a day if so.Devil505 wrote:Now that outside temps are colder (High in low to mid 30's) I'm probably burning around 30lbs/day in my hand fired TLC.
Just coal. I have a central FHA by gas furnace that was on less than 7 minutes all last winter. I go through just under 2 tons per season. (of course I keep the house at 37* inside................................JUST KIDDING!....it's about 68* upstairs & 71-72* downstairs. (using a blower fan on my stove is what makes all the difference)coalmeister wrote:Dev, is your coal baby your only source of heat? Must be nice to do it on 30# a day if so.

Dude... I'm stoked! Not from CA... just a coal burner! (not to be confused with THE coal berner) I just measured my coal usage in my bin... I used just under a 5 gallon bucket in 30 hours... if my calculations are correct, that's about 28 lbs per 24 hours period! It's been in the mid 20's at night and around 32 during the day. I'm a happy camper! It cost me 2.80 cents in coal to heat my house for 24 hours! (plus electricity of course!) Simply stoked! Pret

Last 24 hours for me the temps have been teens-30's and I used 30#, heating 1300 sq ft ranch to 70-74 with LL Econo I. In the past I probably would have used 40# or so of pellets.
