My highest usage is 2 bags a day -- 100 lbs. I really have to be aggressive to do it though, frequent stoking and shaking, lots of air. Most of the time in moderate weather I use half that.

Added a column to convert to the average pounds per day for each month, and created a new chart with these values. In January I was running about 52 pounds per day.
Are you a manager at P&G?
Use the same buckets, weigh a bunch of them when filled, average that weight. Now just count the buckets you use and multiply by your average.
Then with Excel, you can do some cool stuff, this is what I got from the data, there's more I did, such as auto-figuring when I'll run out of coal,
to the DAY, based on current usage.
I used 6,084 pounds over 143 days.
Average 42.5 lbs/day
Cost = $4.79/day (@ $0.1125/lb)
Heating results above from the following date range: 10/27/07 thru 3/18/08.
Stove: Hitzer, 30/95, double wall, duratech pipe.
Coal: Anthracite, pea size
Supplier: Dennis Coal
This is about a 1500 sq ft home, ranch style, in Central Square, NY.
In case you're wondering, this is me: http://www.iRecoverData.com
That explains the rather analytical answer!

Wow! This is great info for a new coal burner. layoric has the same stove as I, and lives 70 miles south of me. His house is only slightly larger than mine. That sure gives me a good idea of how much coal I can expect to use next winter. In the past 3 and 1/2 weeks I have averaged 25# / day. Actual use has fluctuated a lot, but so has the weather.

We burn about 50 lbs per day averaged over the course of the winter. More during the coldest months, less during the early fall and late spring. Typically burn 5 ton per calender year.

Can't blame the EFM for lack of Maintenance and not having it set up correct By not having any type of controls on it And running it 24/7 for two yearslincolnmania wrote:since I got the efm on a timer and a thermostat, my usage is down to about 100 lbs a day with 2 stokers running......only way the alaska will run is with the stoker motor running full blast and the carpet barely moving.....broke from fixin the efm
