Single digits for 2 days, burned about 200# in 48 hours. My buddy said his gas furnace is running almost continuously, that made me feel better
December usage:
Coal used: Bituminous Nut 2640#
Ash: 315#
Ash%: 11.9%
Degree Days: 1002
# Used/degree day: 2.64#
I used nearly the same amount per degree day as in November which was 2.6# per degree day.
Ash in November was 13.6% and in December it was 11.9%.
All coal and ash weighed in and out on the same scale for accuracy.
I can almost load by weight and weather forecast and be pretty close on the usage.
I think the amount per day is too inaccurate because of the swings in temperature from
day to day are too great.I use http://www.wunderground.com/ for my figures of the closest
city to my location for my degree day figures.

I have a leisure Line Pioneer running flat out since mid Nov. Not being very scientific or precise, I am burning about 60-70lbs per day. Stove is in basement of of 1790 4000sf colonial. Neither ideally situated or sized for what I am asking
of it, it has cut my oil use 60%. This stove is now my friend.

I am running a Biasi Wood/Coal boiler paralleled to my Crown Freeport oil fired with hydro-air heat and indirect fired water heater. It is my first year burning coal and I am loving it. Once I got comfortable with my coal burning skills, I disconnected the oil burner and have not burned any oil since Christmas. I started out with a ton of Centralia on 12/22 and just used it up today 1/17. The weather has been fairly cold this year. I get my domestic hot water from the same system so I am saving on my heat and hot water. I am burning about 70 lbs a day to heat 2200 sq ft and heat domestic water. I built the house in 2000 and it is pretty tight but locked in on oil in August (MISTAKE!!! 4.39/gallon). So I guess 10.64/day is not bad for heat and hot water. I know I would burn more than 2 1/2 gallons of oil per day so I am ahead in the game.

So far, this first week of running the new efm steam boiler, I'm loading up 160 pounds a day! At this rate, I'll be out of coal in about 6 months and I bought extra. I have my fingers crossed that this usage is only due to the cold snap we are having.
I was surprised when after seeing this thread and doing the math, that I've been burning right at 70 lbs/day since jan 1st. This after the wicked cold we've had lately.
I had guessed that I was using 2 bags/day
from Oct 20th thru Drc 31, I averaged 55 lbs/day
started out with 4 tons, willl need more unless AlGore brings back global warming

I've been using right around 75#'s every 24hrs. Outside temp doesn't seem to matter much. If I crank up the stove, it will easily burn 100#'s, but won't last long. I like keep the heat steady for at least 12 hrs.
Started burning off & on in October, then steady by end of November. As of right now, I've burned 3.25 tons. I used to use 3.75 tons for the entire season with the Mark I, but we had some pretty cold rooms & quite a bit of oil usage. Now the entire house from basement to second floor is 65* - 70*. Not sure of my exact square footage......realtor had one measurement (1400) & bank got another (1800), so I'll say 1,600 sq.ft.(not including basement) poorly insulated & drafty 150 yr. old house. It's looking like I may be short 1.5 tons this year, judging by my usage (first season with Mark III). Bought 5 tons this season & had 1/4 ton left over from last season, so it's looking like I'll need 6.5 tons to make it thru next season.
....And this is keeping the oil burner on too! If I were to shut the oil off, I'd probably use 7.5 - 8 tons!
