Sounds to good to be true for that 3 phase motor to draw 0.6 amps at full load.

Drive can work at a quick glance...

Motor wants to be dual voltage 240/480 or can be straight 240 3 phase

It's true for a 575 volt motor, not for a 230 volt motor, but your single phase input will be what turns the house meter if you start doing any maths. ;)

Holding each of the motors in each hand and there is little weight to the 3 phase motor and as said before almost no heat for these fractional HP 3 phase motor.

Thanks McGiever. Continuing to look for a 3 phase 230v motor. Lots of listings to go through. Amazing alternative.

It's not really 3 phase as I understand it. It mimics 3 phase with electronics. Lots of homes now have what are called constant pressure well pumps that ramp up and down to meet demand that use this technology.

I have that type of well pump. It is a Grundfos. Works great without pressure fluctuations. Small pressure tank. I can select pressure to be maintained up to 100psi. Had too many issues related to starting torque of other pumps requiring extra maintenance and shorter service life. No fun pulling deep well pumps I wasn’t thinking about it being the same technology. I like it.

Yes, I have a DIY version I put together for my deep well pump here too, works very good all around.

Whoa!!!! Are you crazy! Yes what is being discussed will work and make the motor last a but longer but this huge push anymore for VFD's is crazy. If you get more than 5 years with a VFD ya done good. I work with these every day and curse projects when I see more and more coming in. It's a huge cost but the cost saving calculations by far sway in favor so I get it. Factor in time and replacements. Can you program this drive? Can you wire this up? Can you keep a spare handy for when it fails? Maybe finding a better capacitor for the job, maybe look at sending 2 sets of power leads and timer relays from delta to a wye motor configuration. Hey on paper a VFD will win, past experience, it loses everytime. Just my .02$

VFD's are a big cap bucket with some diodes and resistors. They dont like noise on the line and hate power surges. Not to mention someday the ole power company will monitor residential power factor, that's another topic altogether.

Some one who is smarter than me please explain the difference between a VFD and an ECM motor? My understanding is that all new HVAC equipment is now required to have ECM motors.

ECM is a fancy acronym for a vfd capable DC motor

Not all motors are designed to handle vfd's

I am enjoying the learning process of this technology. I like to learn. I like to ”tinker”. It appears that this forum is full of those sharing these same traits that are willing to share their knowledge and experience with others. Thanks to all.
