I'd like to bring this thread back to life if I could! We are currently trying to update our main floor (raised ranch) and bring it into the 21st century. We love the heat that our chubby provides us in the bitter cold winter, especially since we have electric baseboard heating. The hearth that came with the house is most certainly a diy special.. for one, the brick has a gap between it and the wall, and the floor brick isnt square. Well, we too would like to try our hand at making this a focal point rather than an eye sore. I was thinking to do the base tall enough to provide space for a pull out drawer to store about 40 lbs of coal.... I'd love to see everyones hearths! I want coal stove inspo, not wood stove! Thanks!!
We would really like to do a stone veneer to the ceiling to omit the heat shield board you can see in the second photo

Not to fancy but there it is.
A tiny stove atop concrete paver, atop 4 more concrete pavers.
The floor is concrete so it is not really for fire protection. More for raising the stove up some.
For a size reference that is 4" stovepipe.
