What are folks using for back up power for their stokers.

We're in town and when we lose power it tends to be for brief periods of time (a few hours at most, never days(so far)).

Battery/UPS?

Inverter in the car?

A genset seems overkill.

i use a small generator. we loose power for days where I live. when Ike left overs came through we lost it for 3 days , didn't want to loose everything in the fridge. winter , I need it for heat and the rest of the house.

Do a search on the forum for UPS.. you should find several threads on the subject, I started one last year as an information source..

If you lose power on a stoker stove the fire can go out fairly quickly. A back up battery pack can keep the fire going for up to 8 hours on RSC Stoves. Some of the better battery back up packs can even run the internal blower also.

I'm going to run mine on a Ultra UPS. You can also buy a power inverter for 60 bucks or less at Wal-Mart and hook it up to a car battery if worse comes to worse

I have a DVC-500 Harman. The exhaust and intake are lower than the fire. What happans when the power goes out while running? How will the unit continue to exhaust without a fan?

I plan on getting a Tripp Lite Model #: APS750 and hook in a marine battery. Runs off regular 110, then if power goes out auto switches over to the battery, when power comes back on it will recharge the battery.

I'm using an 8KW Generac genset, but that's backup power to the entire house. I was thinking about a separate battery with an inverter for the stove, perhaps pressing a few marine gel-cells that I have lying around into service.

I have the Tripp Lite 750 as well.
I've not used it yet. I'm going to do a "trial" when I fire up for the season.
I'll post how it goes.

No exhaust issues? There is no natural draft in this thing right?

AA130 backup. Exercise bike with pulley and belt hooked up to rear tire. Extra pulley on motor shaft. Hook up belt between exercise bike and boiler. Pedal 2-3 minutes each half hour. Would work well for my steam heat during power outages, no circulator pumps. Only joking. Maybe.

With the freak nor-easter storm we just had, and being out of power for 1.5 days and buying a 5k generator to run the stove/house, I have a new sence of ergency on getting my backup system in place. I bought the deepcell battery, now to get the Tripp Lite unit. Jeesh, what a heck of a last few days.

Be careful with the cheap inverters, they may not have a modified or full sine wave output. Spend a little extra and get a good one with a modified or FULL SINE wave AC Output.

It COULD damage your motors and/or cause them to buzz or hummm.
