I'm a newbie here, I think your Forum is fantastic all of you are very helpful, I've learned a lot!!!
OK so I got the Coal Stove Bug a few weeks ago.
What I would like to find is a new anthracite warm air furnace to supplement the new heat pump
(what a disappointment last winter in Jan/Feb with twice the SEER of 18 yr old predecessor not a penny less of electricity).
But the "Boss" has but a $1500 limit on my project.
So my search so far has only found new wood/bituminous furnaces (1557m US Stove at TSC and Vogelzang Norseman
1500 at Northerntool) that are in my budget.
Can any of you tell me about any new anthracite warm air furnaces that are less than $1500?
Or do I need to negotiate a higher spending limit? Or re-think what I want to get.
THANKS!

Yuo can get a LL Econo for $1800
**Broken Link(s) Removed**Note there is significant difference between the LL and the manufacturers you mentioned, this is built by coal stove people.
Edit: those you mentioned are both hand fired? This is the stoker section of forum, which type are you looking for?

I would recommend staying away from the two low cost 'furnaces' you mention.. The one that Richard recommended I also would recommend.. For a simple to use, controlable temperature, and reliable stove, you can't beat the Leisure Line stoves.
The two furnaces you mentioned have been the subject of many topics and discussions, many by frustrated owners. These furnaces are really wood burners that can, with a lot of work and fussing, burn coal. One owner took his back to TSC, got his money back it was so frustrating to keep burning.. he bought a designed for coal furnace and is now very happy..
You pretty much get what you pay for, the smaller stoker stoves do a great job of supplementing the heating needs of a house,, and they are very easy to live with, they are reliable, and once lit, can burn for the whole season with only adding coal to the hopper, and emptying the ash pan.
Hope this helps..Greg L

Do not shy from used. I bought a used boiler for $500 about 14 years ago (it was about 22 years old then) and she is still heating my house, I'm sure I can sell it for more than what I paid for it today. These things are built like tanks. Craigslist/Ebay is your friend! They are out there.PAdutchman wrote:But the "Boss" has but a $1500 limit on my project.
Some info would help. How is your home heated? Hot water, forced air, other? What is the homes size? Chimney?

Thanks Rick 386 for the time and good advice on the phone!!
LL Econo I at about $1800 is close, out-off-stock until late November at the places I've called.
Trying to find a showroom model I can look at?
Other suggestions similar to the price of the LL Econo I ?
I checked eBay and Craigslist some porssibles.
I'm off to the For Sale forum as suggested.
Little side questions: Better to blow heated air into the cold return of my heat pump system?

I purchased my Leisureline stove from Debruque Coal Co. located in Canastota NY (between Syracuse and Utica). I stopped in last week 9/26/08 to pick up some supplies and the owner Kyle he was down to four unsold stoves. If you're interested the phone number is 315-380-1016.

Found a nearby Hitzer dealer and a website with a $1900 price on Model 55 FA.
Wonder if like the LL furnace the local Hitzer dealer don't even have one to show.
WIll try to call the local Hitzer dealer tomorrow (actually today).
Did not find much detail on the 55 FA is it a stoker?

I don't believe that the Hitzer furnaces are stokers.. all handfeeds.. Hitzer just started to offer a Stoker stove this year.
Most dealers have sold out all available deliveries through next February or March. The manufacturers are building and delivering product at the fastest rate they can. Most dealers will have sold and delivered their floor models too.

My house: built 1987, 2100 sq ft with finished basement 2 story cape code/salt box style with a 1 story family
room w/ vaulted ceiling connecting the garage to the main part of the house. Current heating system is a
American Standard heat pump 16 SEER 1 year old Model 4TEE3F49B1000AA (if that helps). Brick fireplace
in the family room masonary flue and a wood stove (Ashley Automatic) in the basement 6 inch black pipe to
its own flue (I think also masonary). The wood stove is a few inches away from the cold air return duct and
electronic air cleaner on the heat pump exchanger. Andersen windows. Average insulation -fiberglass outer walls
and roof.
Did I leave out anything?

The Hitzer 55FA is a Hand Fired furnance that has to shaked down every 8-12 hours and reloaded.
Not like a Stoker Stove (LL Econo) that you only have to load coal in the hopper and remove the ashes.

Thanks WNY.
I see you have both a Keystoker and a LL, may I ask what do you think of the quality and price of each?

That is an insane price for a 55 unless that is with the whole furnace kit, ie blower, filter unit , and cabinet. I just but an 82 U.L. without anything and it was $980, all the extra's add about $1000
