The dawn came cooler than the rest, All windows just now tight,it's best. No frost yet but close last night, Long sleeve plaid, just about right. By the chimney he stood steady, Oiled, quiet, cool and ready. Is today the day or do we wait? To strike the match and warm the grate. Basement door opens with a creak, Will you be putting on any heat? Decision made no time to spare, I wish I had one more little mouse flare. Break some Cowboy coal, squirt it down, Pile on the shine and lite it all around, The smoke of the match gone so quick Justabout as fast as Old St. Nick. Watch the small flame take ahold, Turn on the switches, bring life to black gold. A little grin comes your way, As for now,no oil baron shall you pay. Sweep things up,and dust around, An hour goes by,enjoy the crinkle sound. Back up to the kitchen and a cup o'joe, Another question, why is it so slow? It is slow by nature, that's it's way, Give it an hour to feel it's ray. The one per year match is now gone, Lets now hope winter won't be too long. Watch the pile ,empty the ash, Think of the savings and all that cash. Settle back now, enjoy the rest, As for the heat source, you've got the best!! At ease fellows, lite 'em if ya gottem. Regards, Mike
