I just purchased a Reading Coal stove and the SWG powervent by Field Controls. I will be putting the coal stove in my basement and using the powervent to go directly out the window in my basement as directed by my dealer. My question is if I have a 4' vertical run then about a 2ft horizontal run out the window do I even need the power vent? Wouldn't the exhaust from the coal stove simply travel out the chimmney pipe?

No, you will definatly need a power vent.

Check clearances. Take the time to read the instructions with the powerventer. They MUST be located a certain distance from the ground. It will also mention distances from windows and doors.

If you had a larger pipe (ie. 6" Diameter) and could get it above the roof line, then you would not need a power vent.

Thanks for the response. Beyond the power vent and the stove is anything else required or once I hook the vent to the stove pipe and power the unit will I be good to go? The actual power vent literature doesn't indicate the powervent's need to be away from windows. I am looking at going directly thru the basement window which is 2 panes. I will remove one pane of glass and then replace that will a stainless steel piece thru which the powervent will be mounted.

Bill,

Check here for info on the powervent:

http://www.leisurelinestoves.com/

Clearances, etc. are listed. Scroll down the page for diagram.

Also take the time and search here on this site for powervents. A lot of good info has already been posted.

I eevn started a thread with pics when we did a powervent install on my kid's Keystoker.
