I have the chance to buy a used Alaska Kast Console II stove. Are these good stoves? it's 7 years old but only fired for 4 seasons.

I took a good look at it. The auto feed mechanism works as does the blower. needs a new glass for the door, but for the price I can replace it no prob.

Stokers and all coal stoves are in such short supply, that they are fetching premium prices. Stove glass can be bought directly from Alaska as well as other parts it might need.

Alaska from what I've heard are good stoves, even the triburners, if its in decent condition, and not too much money, I wouldn't wait too long making up my mind about it.

Highlander is giving you good advice.. if the stove is priced reasonable, and will work for your application, buy it before someone else buys it..

Even if it is not perfect for your needs or application, it will put a big dent in your heating bill..

If the price is under say $12-1500, and all the fans and motors work, buy it..

Ok, I have a verbal agreement with the guy for the stove. Now I need to find someone who will install the power vent that I need. Does anyone know of anybody who will install a power vent in the Tremont PA area?

by the way, I'm paying 600 bucks for the stove

Is there a way to tell when a stove was manufactured? the serial number is 4319. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Well, The Kast Console II is repainted and looking pretty sweet. How do I properly replace the glass in the door? I bought a new one from the hardware store.

The biggest problem will be getting the retainer bolts out of the door. There is a possibility that they may shear off, which happened to me. I then had to drill them out and tap the holes for larger bolts.

Alaska Kast Console Is Home

Hopefully you will not have this problem with yours.

If you have an oxy/acetylene torch heat the cast around the bolt and gently remove, is possible to remove without breaking this way. If not try a small propane torch and plenty of WD 40 or equiv, patience is the most useful tool in this situation. :)

I used some PB Blaster to loosen the bolts and they came out fine. I guess the question I have now is do I attempt to install the new glass and gaskets now, or should I wait until I am ready to fire the stove up for the first time before I apply the hi temp cement to hold it all together. The directions say something about a final cure at first fireing.
