Hello,I’ve been using this Keystroker 90 for about 10 years. This is the first time I’ve seen this after I’ve shut it down for the season. Anyone know what would cause this build up?
Thanks in advance!

Tom....
I know we have had a weird, mild Winter..........but, I think I would run the brushes from top to bottom......a chimney sweep, and go forward from there.
Cheers

Was that a hard crust or just fly ash? If crusty, did you use a lot of wet coal??? Were you using bags or bulk? If bags, were they excessively wet this year?
Fly ash
I’ve used wetter, such a warm year coal pretty dry this season
Bulk get 2 ton twice a season.
Also didn’t feel like I was getting the heat out of the stove compared to previous seasons. So changed my ignition blower motor mid season. Swapped it out before stove went out. So I didn’t clean it. But I never usually shut it down. Lite in late October shut it down late April.
Motor swap didn’t make much of a difference heat wise.
Shut it down this year early April,I was getting a little burning coal smell from stove. Never had that before.
Thanks

Welcome. Sometimes you get coal that creates a lot of flyash, sometimes you don't. It is a naturally product and it is not unusual to see some variation in how it burns year to year. It is good practice to shutdown for midseason cleaning, that way you can catch something like this before it becomes a problem.

Never seen that much build up. my keystoker is almost 20 years old and never seen that. some ash build up throughout the season, but I usually clean it out when season is done. spray with LPS3.
