Chain on the Side of Stove

Hello and this is my first post .I have been reading ,reading a lot and taking a few ideas since I found this forum I have a warm morning coal stove on the top side of the stove has a chain tha open a little door does anyone know the purpose of it I was thinking for a draf door for burning wood but what do I know . :?

Chain with little door is usually on a bimetal coil that opens and closes said door to increase or decrease air as the stove temp changes.
