We recently purchased a shop that originally had a coal furnace but now has a propane furnace. We would like to remove it. We are trying to figure out if there is a market for the coal furnace. We flip the switch and the motor starts up, that's all we know about it. There is a coal bin with I'm guessing an auger behind the shop. Any insight is appreciated regarding what we should do with it. Thanks!

It burns Sub Bituminous Coal and Lignite Coal and has an older Maertens
underfed stoker that you can still get parts for.

Put it in the classifieds in the Dakotas, Montana and Wyoming and someone
will buy it quickly with winter coming on

Any idea what a person should ask for something like this?

The Maertens stoker, motor and blower motor itself is worth at least $250.00.

A lot of folks still burn sub bituminous coal from Wyoming and Montana and lignite from the mines in North Dakota for heat and domestic hot water.

If you take a high power flashlight or a good flashlight and put the flashlight in the firebox and remove the sheet metal off the top of the furnace and look in the plenum to see if any light is shining through from the firebox that will tell you if there are any holes in the plenum.

The Maertens folks in Center, North Dakota may be very willing to take it off your hands as they rebuild them it too.
Just have the serial number in your hand if you talk to them.
