Jerry,

Does the bearings for the stoker mechanism need oiling at any point and time?

I know the gearbox itself is sealed and should not be serviced by individuals (that's what Jerry told me). I would take it off and keep it clean around the shaft, etc.. mine gets a lot of fines on top of it.
On my Hyfire, I could acutally take the cover off the gearbox (CAREFULLY!! There are quite a few reduction gears in there and you don't want to mess them up!!) and I put some more grease in it.

The blowers should be oiled at least once a season.

I took my gearbox apart also and cleaned the old grease out of it and put in some new grease. I did not know you weren't supposed to mess with them.

Lubrication is fine, they just don't want you playing with the internal parts. Gear reduction units require close tolerances in order to live a long life, they just want to keep them that way.

What type of grease do you put on the gears?

Gear oil, who'd of "thunk" it. You'll know if you get the right stuff and it gets in your hair and you smell it 3 days later... don't ask me how I know this. You can get it at the automotive shop. I'm assuming its the same as ours. there should be a fill plug on the side. You fill it until it starts leaking out of the plug. DO NOT overfill.

Note it may be different for LL so see if anyone says different.

While someone said grease and there is a difference between grease and gear oil. ;)

I know there is a white high temperature grease used on certain types of gears while others use the regular high temperature blackish brown grease.

I just used wheel bearing grease because that is what the old stuff looked like. I hope I made a wise choice.
