Pulled the trigger and got a Pocono top vent ! I'm excited to say the least !!
It was delivered today. The fella I got it from is coming back on the 11th to put it together and get everything hooked up proper.
I had it together half an hour after he left haha.
I've also just installed a new 6" 316 stainless liner in my chimney.
Insulated with poured vermiculite.
Tomorrow I'll run the cord upstairs and get my thermostat hooked up.
I still need to get my baro and some stove pipe to connect to the liner. 316 SS for that lot too.
I went with the duct top option, with a 13" flange. I'll attach a plenum and have it working similar to the old setup. My current stove vents into the basement and is hooked into my ductwork as well. I've an old furnace that I only use the fan on the move hot air back through the duct once it gets hot enough.
I plan to mount the baro horizontal in a tee so I can pop it out and vacuum the fly ash out in an easy manner.
Attached an image of my old Clayton I'm so glad to be rid of. She kept us plenty warm. But I'm tired of shoveling coal and as my wife calls shaking the grates "jerking off the stove" ahhhaha.
This forum has been a most valuable source of knowledge. Thank you all so very much !
If you see me messing something up please tell me !!

No 8×8 tiles, but they were cracked throughout. As well as having a hole punched right through from the garage side so the previous homeowner could vent his pellet stove into the same flue. I've been needing to do the liner since I moved in. I just waited to match it to whichever stove I bought

Stove pipe hooked up. I ended up not going with stainless. Pricing is just insane right now. I'll get pieces here and there till I've got what I need.
And the guy who delivers my coal said rice coal won't slide down the chute to my hard to access bin. So I picked up a ton in 5gal buckets in the minivan. That was a fun ride home ! Haha
Now I'm looking at concrete bin blocks to make a new coal bin.
Coal trol is hooked up. I just put the plenum together this morning. Just waiting on my 12" round to 12" square to be finished and I can be done.
Bring in the cold weather, I can't wait to fire this stove up !

Read your manual. Remember, dry coal only in the hopper. Keep us updated, I'm interested in your results.

Read the manual several times, watched the videos several times too.
That ton I picked up is sitting in the basement dry as can be

If it's bagged there will be moisture in the bags. I assume it's to keep the dust down while bagging. I remember reading someone saying 90% of problems with smokers are from wet coal in the hopper. What is rating of that stove? And how many cfm on the distribution blower?

Sorry, forgot reading that. Already in buckets should make it easier for your daily loading. Fire it up yet?

I sure did !
Only issue I had was one of the blowers rattled very loud. I had them tightened on as tight as possible. The fix was quite simple, I simply backed the bolt out just a tad while maintaining a tight seal. Easy peasy.
Also tore open the coal starter bag that came with the stove to see how it was made. Small brown bag with paper scraps and a handful of lump charcoal is all it was. Made a few of my own and that's what I used the first time. Lit right up and the anthracite was burning within a minute. Absoulutly LOVED that !

I think those bag starters has something impregnated into the paper that helps them burn. I know they worked better than my home made attempt. Anyone know why those bags from the coal dealer seem to burn well when you turn on the combustion fan?
I've been running a pocono since 2007 with zero problem. If you haven't read it:

That's a bummer, I was happy to think I was going to be saving a few bucks bucks year by making own.
Either way, charcoal will do just fine getting her lit. Maybe not as fast or as spectacular though.
Now I'm off to research those bags, and read your thread as well. Ty

It must be a secret. No information to be found on the coal starters, as I'm quite sure you have all searched.
However, I would be willing to bet that due the way it burns and the yellow color of the paper scraps inside the bag that the mysterious substance is...
Nitro cellulose aka flash paper
Once I've the time to fiddle around I'll make some and test my theory
