Hello again,

It’s that time of year again we’re I need help from you professionals! I’m going through my stove and trying to clean and replace the gaskets/rope. Guess your suppose to do it every three years according to the manual..

Anyways how do you remove these bolts that are corroded (ones where they get fly ash on them, ex. take the door off)? Wow!!! I never see stuff corroded this quick. My methods been wd40, a blow torch, a hammer, a bunch of cursing, drill, screw extractors, beer, and yelling. This method sucks. I read on here about PB blaster, so I picked that up and am in process of trying that.

Thanks,
Paul

Well, if you have beer, the rest of the steps don't matter.

Sorry, been living in the bathroom with stomach bug past 2 days. Starting to feel better now. PB blaster is success, way better than wd40 for removing bolts. It does have a strong odor that last a few days tho. I’m finding most of my gaskets are shot. They are falling apart.

Currently, trying to figure out how to get to the strongback gasket. I think the grate comes off the feeder housing somehow?!

Got it, needed to take the feeder moon out, remove 2 screws on the plate where moon sits. Take the plate out (channel plate?). Then the grate pops out. I did use a hammer and rag to give light taps to separate the grate from feeder housing. Hopefully this goes back together. Going to run to store for gaskets and beer

There’s actually a flat gasket to hold them together. I’ll try to get a picture uploaded later today.

When I install the new gaskets, do I need to use gasket cement? Thinking can just use a minimum in some spots just to hold it in place. Also, how clean do I have to get the metal, so the gasket will be effective and not leak. Do I need to sand it down to make sure all previous cement is gone or is putty knife good enough?
