Hi I’d like to get some advice on how you keep inside of a hopper from rusting or falling apart? Mine is still pretty clean on the inside but you could see the shiny metal I don’t want to rust away . Tips Rubberized undercoat/self etching primer/paint is it worth it going through this process to help extend the life of the hopper very expensive to replace. Thanks

Hmm, some hoppers are ON the fire and others just hold room temperature raw coal until it would get metered out ON to a remote burn grate. This could make for different solutions as for preserving either type hopper.

I just used POR-15 on my Keystoker 90. I was using cold galvanizing but the POR gives a smoother surface. Will see how it behaves. My hopper is not exposed to much heat as the surfaces are just warm where it meets with the stove back. The back of the stove is kept cooler as this is the plenum for the convection fan, that blows air up the back, across the top and out the front of the stove.
