banging hopper

In the past our hopper made a light, intermittent thumping noise when shifting the coal down that wasn't really noticeable unless one was near the stove and listened closely. This seemed normal. About a week ago the intermittent thumping bot much louder. The thumping is almost banging now and is audible from the next room. We took apart and vacuumed out the small blower that fans the flame as this was suggested by a friend. It is still just as loud. Any ideas? (it is a Keystoker 90/105 Stoker Coal Stove)

It sounds like you have a binding pusher plate and need to
clean the stoker itself by removing the stoker assembly.
if you have oiled coal the dust can ball up and the pusher
plate can have a harder time moving if the dust is
accumulating along the side of the stokers pusher plate
and causing it to bind briefly as it travels forward.

I agree with lzaharis, Something is binding in the pusher block area. Could be the little strip of gasket that wipes the pusher block clean when it is retracting. What ever it is, it should be obvious once you pull it apart. For the heck of it, empty the hopper. You have to do it anyways. Check to see if you have a stone caught in the bottom of the hopper.

Look to the Shaded-pole motor Gearbox because it has broken a internal gear tooth...better have a replacement unit in hand...
