Hi all, I found a used pioneer back vent with that control unit tonight. I searched and it seems like it can be used in a conventional class a chimney right? I can only have two 90• Turns? This one if I buy it would go in a basement and I’d have to instal a new chimney so I’m not sure if I can jump on this opportunity. I’m pretty sure it won’t work out, sadly. (As I can’t have a chimney running through the inside of my house. I did that at my last house (properly boxed off etc ) I just don’t want to do that again. I want either power vent or chimney outside the house. I think a power vent won’t work because it needs to go literally straight outside but I’m not smart on how they work.
I was hoping someone might say I can buy a top vent part or something. Wishful thinking?
Nate

I use a power vent on my top vent alaska channing and it works well for me. My pipe run is about 3 feet vertical with the barometric damper then a 90 straight back about 2 feet toward the wall then a 6" to 4" reducer into a double insulated stainless into the power vent which passes past 6" studs and through 12" cement block. I have PLENTY of draft to spare thats taken up with my barometric damper. Its a good option for someone that doesnt have a chimney like myself.

my direct vent on my keystoker go up up about 6-7 feet and out about 6 feet. works great. I do have a draft gauge and monitor it to make sure of ash build up when the draft start going down and clean it out regularly.

Oh that’s great information! Maybe I can make this work! One thing that I’ve searched for but not found a really comforting answer to is doesn’t the power vent stain the side of the house ? It must not because I never see it mentioned!

Anthracite doesnt give off soot or smoke like bituminous does.

yes, it could stain siding a bit, you can always put some cement board or metal around the exhaust to help protect the siding .
