Guy's I have my new stove up and running everything seems to be going great, only concern would be should the fire be further out on the grate. I am running a Coal-Trol and so far room temp is being maintained.

I have made no adjustments to the Coal-Trol. But the room was at 55 when i fired up the stove. This was shortly after reaching the desired temp. Room maintained temp all day.

The back of your fire is where it should be. The front of your fire will vary depending on your feed rate.

if the thermostat is satisfied, it will reduce feed rate down and should only burn towards the back as it looks like it is doing. Just a small line of burning coal. that would be your MIN setting on coaltrol. Feed rate is very low.

The MAX is running full out with FR=99 (Feed rate) and should not be pushing hot coals off the grate. if it is, the max needs to come down a point or two.

The standard/factory settings in the coaltrol for your stove should be a good starting point, normally don't need much adjustment.

Thanks, I have been reading too many posts, and was concerned about a hopper fire not having any experiance of where the coal should be burning. Stove and Coal trol have been running great.

From what I was told. Hopper fires occurred in the original Alaska stoves because the air from the feeder grate would bypass the grate because the holes got plugged up. I believe the first ones didn’t have the strong back gasket.
