Been burning for years and last year replaced the blower motor out just before the season was over - we started having issues of unguents coal. So we tore everything apart cleaned it oiled it and put it back together fired it up this year and again we are having issues with unburnt coal with the season being pretty mild we haven’t been burning it really hard but I when it did get cold we have more unburnt coal then I’ve ever seen. Would anybody have any suggestions on what can be done? is it a rheostat going bad wrong size blower motor? Any suggestion would be appreciated

Welcome to the Forum 😁. The blower motor that you replaced was it the combustion blower motor that blows air through the grates ? Did you replace it with the same motor ? While the motor was out did you clean the area under the grates and clean the holes out ( you can use an 1/8” drill bit) ???

Yes it was the combustion motor and we took it out and took it into the service place and they gave us the replacement and yes just a month ago we cleaned everything out again underneath the burner and the grate and we did the holes with drill bit

Great, what kind of coal are you burning ? Some low quality coal will just not burn well and have a lot of fines and stone ect in it. Do yo have a Direct Vent system ?

Does it seem like it is feeding more coal than you have it set for ?? Wondering if the feeder control is going out or the contacts are dirty ?? Have you tried to move the knob back and forth several times then set it and see what happens ?

If isn’t feeding anymore coal it just isn’t burning it. No we have not moved the knob back and forth but will try it. Is it the rheostat you’re speaking about the knob?to increase the coal rate I hand turn the lobe nut

Never had issues with any gaskets. Never switch any out. Which gasket would need replaced?? What is the OEM number to look up?

If it was my stove I would order all new gaskets for the stove from Alaska and replace all of them after the burning season, most manufacturers would recommend replacing them by 10 years old ! If the combustion blower is right you maybe getting air in some place from a bad gasket and at 16 years I’m sure they have seen better days. Call Brian Gensel at Alaska at 570 354 5901 he should be able to help with the part #’s
