No you don't need anymore pipe in the thimble, other than the crimp. The thimble then becomes the pipe. I'm quite sure that when you reinstall properly, you will be in business. No rope gasket needed if crimp fits snug.

I just reassembled all the pipes and removed the 12" length of pipe inside the thimble. I also made sure they are level. The stove is off and the doors and damper are shut. Should I be getting a reading from the manometer ? I put it in the hole i made by the damper and I'm not getting any reading. Before connecting the increaser I could "feel" the draft on my hand in the thimble opening. It is a bit warmer out then usual...and if you can believe it, my house is a bit colder..

Is the hole you are putting the tube in completely sealed against the tube?

If everything is reconnected & the crimped end of the increasor fits in the thimble about 1 1/2 inch, & fits snugly fire it up. I don't know if a reading will show with the unit not running. Try opening a door & damper first & you just might get a very low reading.
That would be a good sign. But give it a shot & fire it up. I'll check back a little later.

Haven't got a chance to fire it up yet. I hopefully will do that tonight.

Glad things are starting to work out. If possible, could take a photo of the manometer set up & the position of the baro flap when the stove is running? If that flap is pulling strong into the chimney, you may have to adjust the weight.

I have an older Draft-Rite https://www.mybacharach.com/product-view/draftrite/. I made a hole in the stove pipe 1/4" which is the same diameter as the 6" test tube it uses. I put my finder on the Zer oCheck hole, insert the tube as far as I can without burning myself, try to level it so the needle is at 0 and it not tipped forward or back. Seem like not getting a reading in the pipe or the over burn area of the stove.

You would need the correct model for coal draft range of readings...
This one... +0.05 to -0.25 inH2O (P/N 0013-3001)
