Does anyone know if buckwheat coal , a step up from rice can be burnt in the Channing 3 ?
If so would there be any advantages to burning it ? I'm trying a 50/50 mix now of rice/buckwheat.

No, alaska only recommends rice. Buckwheat may not feed correctly and if it jams you can break the gear box.

Ok. I'm burning about 50/50 in it currently but just was trying 1 bag of buckwheat.

I agree, there is no safety on the gear box !!! It’s about a $150 for the part !!! Not worth it for a bag of coal, I had that issue last year where the rice coal had larger than rice in it and it jammed and broke the gear box, I was down for about 2 weeks till I got the delivery from Alaska and (new manufacturer gear box) broke in 2 days Alaska sent out an old style new gear box at no cost, and the coal company paid for the 1st one ! Sent the new gear box back to the manufacturer and they sent out another that I use as a spare ! But it was nothing but a headache!!!
