So I've just started up my stove for the first time this year and ever since i started it i cant quite seem to get it running right. For one it produces very little heat. I have the thermostat set at above 80 and the room temp is 60. So i reset the coal feed by turning it in alway and backing it out 4 which is the stock setting. This is too much coal feed and the coal starts piling off sides of the fire plate.

A few things to check...

1. Did you clean (vacuum) under the grates after shutting down last spring?
2. Have you been oiling the combustion motor with two drops of 20W at the beginning of each heating season?
3. Have you cleaned the holes in the grates with a punch or 1/8 drill bit?

+ Have you inspected chimney for dead critters or other obstructions?

Believe it or not, all the above can cause low heat out and hot coals to drop in the pan.

If you've already done all those maintenance items, you may have a motor going bad. How old is this stoker?

What's the quality of your coal like? I've had those symptoms with a bad batch of coal that had a lot of fines in it.
