Stoker Coal Boiler: Gentleman Janitor GJ-81

Post by janitor_ed » Wed. Sep. 18, 2019 9:53 pm

Greetings,

Well here we are at the start of a new season and I've realized the glass on my Channing is fractured.

I read that some have replaced the glass with a piece of stainless steel sheet. I was wondering if anyone could comment about what gauge of stainless would be good to use and what if anything might need to be done differently to get it properly sealed up.

Thank You.

I replaced my glass with 3/16 of aluminum. I drilled a 2 in hole in the center and mounted a piece of the broken glass behind so I'd have a view. It works well. Got tired of breaking $100 glass doors when hot and slamming then when in a hurry. Done deal.

ed, just seal it same as you found the glass sealed...no different there.
It will 'grow', so leave room for some expansion.
We like pictures. :)
