- Stoker Coal Boiler: Looking to purchase
I am looking at a 2012 Harman super stoker . It has been maintained very well and is in good condition. What is a fair price to pay for it?

Be patient Sbird. Not as many people here during the summer months and even less that know the answer to your question. I am one of those.

A coworker picked up the original Mag about 5 years ago and I think he paid $1250. I will see him Thursday, although his memory is crap.

You don't need a SS liner in a clay tile chimney...

Liners may work with wood fuel, but avoid any flex liner with coal fuel...even if someone sells one with a warranty a claim is void without professional install and seasonal professional maintenance.
The risk is liner perforations due to acids created by exhaust gases and eventual liner structural collapse and this creates a blockage in clay liner that will cause the exhaust fumes or gases to backup into the dwelling...carbon monoxide being the worse...
Gases will continue until fire is removed,,,not a happy time, for sure.

Coal eats black stove pipe and liners for breakfast. Clay flue is the way to go. I replace my stove pipe every couple of years on the Chubby.

My clay liner looks like day one after 30 plus years of coal, connecting pipe to thimble of stainless or thick wall black pipe not so much.
I bought our Super Mag new in 2012 and run it 24/7 from Oct 1st to May here in Northern NH. I have Black pipe from stove to wall thru then outside SS chimney up 25 ft or so to roof line. I've never had to replace the black pipe or SS chimney yet. No issues with stove other then replacing the grates once. they worked loose ? not sure and burnt a hole in them. A word of advice shut the door easy as you'll crack the glass when hot or not? just always shut the door easy. At near $100 not good. I replaced mine with Aluminum this summer so I'll see how that works. After 2 glass breaks I'm going for it. Old back and always in a hurry does me in.
One thing that happens is any large chunks that are missed when loading Rice will settle in front of the pusher block and not feed. If you have an issue always clear the hopper and check for chunks down in the pusher area.
I have the room temp probe 35 ft or more away from the stove in the basement. Adding length to the probe doesn't affect it's performance that I can tell. My upstairs main area stays constant within a degree or two no matter what the temp swings are. I have the front air vents on the stove blocked off and all of the air routed upstairs to a floor vent via flexable insulated ductwork. Basement stays a nice 65 deg or so off the radiant heat from the stove. Love this Super Mag. Enjoy it.
P.S. This Mag works like heck here. Down to below zero most nights and a 1800 sq ft home. Some times I think I should of gotten the duel feed stove for more btus' as my stove screams on those many nights and days well below zero.
